Availability Guarantee – Maintenance and Repair Information for EMMO E-Bikes

EMMO electric bicycles are built for long-term reliability when properly maintained. Regular inspection and servicing help ensure your safety and the continued performance of your e-bike. The following information is provided in accordance with Québec’s Bill 29 (Consumer Protection Act, Sections 79.18 and 79.19 of the Regulation) regarding the availability of replacement parts, repair services, and maintenance information.

1. Recommended Maintenance and Inspection

To keep your e-bike in optimal condition, regular maintenance is essential. Brake inspection and adjustment should be performed every 800 km or every 3 months. Check tire pressure and tread monthly. Inspect the battery charging system every 6 months, and check electrical connectors and wiring annually. Clean and lubricate the drivetrain every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on use, and tighten suspension and frame bolts annually or after long trips.
Your e-bike must be inspected by an authorized technician at least once every 6 months. A quick safety check covering brakes, tires, and battery connection should be done before every ride. Failure to follow these maintenance guidelines may lead to injury, property damage, or loss of warranty coverage.

2. Key Components and Rated Service Life

Under normal use and proper maintenance, the major components of your e-bike have the following rated service life:

  • Lead-acid battery: approximately 2 years or 500 cycles

  • Lithium-ion battery: approximately 4 years or 1000 cycles

  • Battery charger: approximately 4 years

Components that exceed their rated service life must be replaced to maintain safety and reliability. Always use batteries and chargers that match the original specifications and voltage. Using non-approved chargers or exposing batteries to freezing temperatures will void coverage.

3. Replacement Parts and Repair Services

Replacement parts, including tires, tubes, brake pads, batteries, chargers, lights, and controllers, are available for at least 5 years after the product’s final manufacturing date.

All replaceable components are designed to be installed using standard tools without causing permanent damage.

4. Battery and Charging Information

EMMO e-bikes may be equipped with either lithium-ion or lead acid batteries, depending on the model. Both are engineered for safe, long-term use with proper care. Follow the guidelines below to ensure optimal safety and performance.

A. Lithium Ion Batteries
Charge at least once per month to prevent cell degradation or failure. Store the battery in a warm, dry environment, ideally between 10 °C and 25 °C, and keep it fully charged when stored. Avoid letting it drain below 20 percent, as deep discharges can shorten its lifespan. In colder conditions, charge more frequently to prevent cell damage. A full charge typically takes 4 to 8 hours using the original certified charger. Expected service life is approximately 4 years or 1000 cycles.

B. Lead Acid Batteries
Charge every 2 to 3 weeks, even when not in use, to prevent sulfation and capacity loss. Always store fully charged indoors in a warm environment and never in freezing conditions. A full charge typically takes 6 to 8 hours, depending on the charger and battery size. Avoid discharging below 50 percent capacity to prevent permanent damage. Service life is approximately 2 years or 500 cycles with proper maintenance.

C. Battery and Charger Safety
Always use original or EMMO-approved batteries and chargers. Inspect the battery regularly for cracks, leaks, deformation, overheating, or smoke, and stop use immediately if any issue appears. Never lift the battery by its connectors or cables.
Charge only indoors in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, and place the charger on a non-flammable surface. Chargers are not waterproof and should never be used outdoors or in damp environments. Avoid charging below 0 °C or above 45 °C, do not cover the charger during use, and never leave it unattended while charging. Keep batteries and chargers away from children, pets, and flammable materials.
Do not open, modify, or submerge the battery pack. Annual inspection and safety testing by an authorized technician are required to ensure long-term safety. Components that have exceeded their rated lifespan or no longer perform properly must be replaced.
If a burning smell, smoke, or excessive heat occurs, disconnect immediately and move the charger away from flammable materials. In the rare event of a battery fire, do not use water. Use sand or a Class D fire extinguisher and contact emergency services.
