Troubleshooting

1. Bike Won’t Turn On

If the bike does not power on, the issue is usually related to the battery connection or charge level.

Check the battery

• Remove the battery and reinstall it firmly until it clicks or locks into place
• Make sure the battery is fully locked and not loose in the frame
• Check the battery level and fully recharge it if needed

Turn the system on properly

• Press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds (a quick tap will not turn it on)

If the bike remains completely unresponsive after these checks, the battery or electrical system may need further inspection. Please contact EMMO support or visit an authorized service centre.

2. Battery Won’t Charge

If the battery isn’t charging, start by confirming that the charger is receiving power.

Check the power source

• Try a different wall outlet
• Make sure the charger indicator light turns on

Check the connection

• Inspect the charging port for dirt or obstruction
• Ensure the charger is firmly connected

If the charger light does not turn on or charging does not begin, the charger or battery may need to be inspected. Contact EMMO support for assistance.

3. Battery Drains Faster Than Expected

Reduced range is often related to riding conditions rather than a battery issue.

Cold weather, low tire pressure, frequent stops, hills, and carrying heavy cargo can all shorten range.

What you can do

• Inflate the tires to the recommended PSI
• Reduce carried weight when possible
• Use lower assist levels on flat terrain

When range remains unusually short under normal riding conditions, a battery health check is recommended. Contact service for further inspection.

4. Bike Shuts Off While Riding

A sudden shutdown while riding is commonly linked to a loose battery connection, overheating, or built-in system protection.

What to check

• Stop riding safely and reseat the battery
• Allow the bike to cool down for 5–10 minutes
• Restart the system

Repeated shutdowns should be inspected by an authorized service centre.

5. Battery Cannot Be Removed

Difficulty removing the battery is usually caused by the lock not being fully disengaged or slight frame tension.

Try this first

• Turn the key completely to the unlock position
• Gently wiggle the battery while pulling it outward

Do not force it. For assistance, contact EMMO service.

6. Display Turns On but Bike Will Not Move

This is typically related to the assist setting or the brake cutoff sensor.

Check the following

• Increase the assist level — it may be set to zero
• Make sure both brake levers are fully released
• Restart the bike

When the bike still does not move after these steps, further inspection may be needed. Please contact service.

7. Throttle Does Not Respond

A non-responsive throttle is often linked to the brake safety cutoff or a loose throttle connection.

What to check

• Confirm both brake levers are fully released
• Inspect the throttle cable connection to ensure it is secure

Continued throttle issues may require inspection of the throttle or related sensor components. Contact an authorized service centre.

8. Pedal Assist Cuts In and Out

Inconsistent pedal assist is commonly caused by sensor interference or an unstable battery connection.

Try this

• Clean the crank and pedal assist sensor area
• Ensure the battery is securely locked in place

Ongoing assist interruptions should be checked by service to inspect the sensor system.

9. Motor Makes Noise but Wheel Does Not Turn

This usually points to excessive load, drivetrain resistance, or a wheel obstruction.

Check the following

• Reduce cargo or rider load
• Lift the rear wheel and spin it by hand to check for resistance or blockage

Avoid continued riding in this condition, as it may cause damage. Contact service for inspection.

10. Pedaling Feels Unusually Difficult

Low assist settings, underinflated tires, or mechanical drag are common causes.

What to check

• Increase the assist level
• Inflate tires to the recommended PSI
• Check chain movement for stiffness or resistance

Persistent resistance should be inspected by a technician.

11. Brakes Make Squealing or Rubbing Noises

New pads, moisture, or dust on the rotors can create noise.

What you can do

• Ride briefly to allow new pads to bed in
• Wipe the rotors with a clean, dry cloth

Ongoing noise may require brake adjustment.

12. Brakes Feel Soft or Weak

Worn brake pads or a hydraulic system that needs service are the most common causes.

What to check

• Inspect the brake pads for wear and confirm there is sufficient thickness
• Check the brake lever travel — excessive pull may indicate service is needed

Professional brake service is recommended.

13. Motor Cuts Off When Braking

This is normal and part of the built-in brake safety system.

What to do

• Fully release the brake lever before applying throttle or pedal assist

No service is required unless power does not return after the brake is released.

14. Brake Lever Does Not Return Smoothly

Lever friction, cable tension, or contamination can restrict smooth movement.

Check the following

• Inspect the lever movement for stiffness
• Ensure nothing is obstructing the lever

Restricted lever return should be inspected to prevent brake performance issues. A brake system inspection is recommended.

15. Braking Performance Feels Reduced

Brake pad wear or rotor contamination are the most common causes.

Check the following

• Visually inspect the brake pads and rotors

Reduced braking should not be ignored. Worn pads should be replaced, or contact an authorized service centre for inspection.

16. Display Will Not Turn On

No battery power or a loose display connection may prevent startup.

What to check

• Confirm the battery is charged
• Reseat the display cable and ensure it is securely connected

If the display remains off after these steps, the display unit or wiring may need inspection.

17. Display Flickers or Restarts While Riding

Loose wiring or an unstable power connection can interrupt operation.

Try the following

• Power off the bike
• Reseat the battery and display connections

Ongoing display interruptions should be inspected by service to check the electrical system.

18. Error Code Appears on the Display

An error code usually indicates a sensor issue or a system communication fault.

What to do

• Record the error code shown on the display
• Power off the bike completely, then restart it

If the code remains after restarting, provide the error number to EMMO support for diagnosis.

19. Lights Do Not Turn On

Lights may be disabled in the settings, or a wiring connection may be loose.

Check the following

• Enable the lights through the display menu
• Inspect the light wiring connections to ensure they are secure

Continued lighting issues may require inspection of the lighting system.

20. Unsure Whether the Bike Needs Service

Minor changes in performance can sometimes signal a developing issue.

What to monitor

• Take note of when the issue occurs and under what riding conditions

Any concern affecting power, braking, or safe operation should be addressed promptly. Stop riding and contact EMMO support or an authorized service centre when safety may be impacted.

FAQs

It’s usually related to the charging setup, storage temperature, or a loose connection, and a few quick checks can help pinpoint it.

• Plug the charger into the wall first, then connect it firmly to the battery/charge port and confirm the charger light is on.
• Check the charging port and battery contacts for dirt or looseness, then reseat the battery securely.
• Try a different outlet and allow a longer, uninterrupted charge (especially after storage).
• If the battery was stored cold, let it reach room temperature before charging.

If the battery still won’t hold a charge, the next step is to have the battery and charger tested to confirm whether the issue is the charger, battery, or charging circuit. Contact our service department for troubleshooting: 1-888-217-1217 (toll-free) or email service@emmo.ca.

Start by confirming the outlet works, fully reseating the charger at both the wall and the bike/battery, and checking the charger’s indicator light for normal behavior.

Next, take a quick look at the charging port and pins for dust, moisture, or a loose fit, and make sure the battery is properly locked/seated (if it’s removable). If you have access to a known-good compatible charger, try it to help confirm whether the issue is with the charger or the battery.

If a battery has been stored without charging for a long time, it may be deeply discharged, and recovery depends on its condition and age. For testing or service, find your nearest dealer at https://emmo.ca/pages/locations or contact our service team at 1-888-217-1217 or service@emmo.ca.

Start by confirming the battery is charged and fully seated/connected.

If your model has a removable battery, remove it and reinstall it firmly. Make sure the kickstand is up (on models with a kickstand cut-off), and check that the brake levers aren’t being held down, since some brake sensors can prevent the motor from powering up. If your bike has a reset button or circuit breaker, check whether it needs to be reset. Steps can vary a bit by model.

If it still won’t power on, contact our service team at 1-888-217-1217 or service@emmo.ca for next steps and diagnostics.
