In most provinces and territories, e-bikes — even those styled like motorcycles or scooters — are recognized as legal and compliant when they meet federal and provincial standards, including a maximum 500W motor and 32 km/h top speed.
In most cases, no license or insurance is required, and you may use it like a regular bicycle. This model is designed and manufactured to align with those guidelines.
⚠️ Important: Motorcycle-style ebikes and scooter-style ebikes are excluded from the power-assisted bicycle category in Quebec and Prince Edward Island. Regulations may vary by province or city. Please check your local laws before riding.

FAQs
In many cases, yes. Scooter-style e-bikes are a comfortable, easy-to-learn option for new riders. The step-through design makes getting on and off simple, and the twist-and-go style riding means there’s typically no gear shifting to think about.
The best fit depends on a few personal factors like your height and reach to the handlebars, how supportive you want the seat to feel, and where you plan to ride (short errands, commuting, or relaxed neighborhood cruising). If you’re deciding between styles, a quick test ride can make the difference, or you can chat with our team for guidance.
Scooter-style e-bikes are a great fit for city riding because they’re typically easy to step on and off, comfortable at everyday speeds, and convenient for carrying small items.
Many scooter-style models use a step-through frame and a relaxed, upright seating position, which can feel more natural for stop-and-go traffic. They’re also often lighter and easier to handle at low speeds and when parking. Instead of gasoline, you charge the battery, and routine upkeep is generally straightforward.
Storage is another practical difference: many scooter-style e-bikes come with a tail box included, while motorcycle-style storage is often an add-on.
Local e-bike guidelines may vary by area.
Range without pedaling depends on the model and riding conditions, but EMMO electric bicycles typically deliver about 40 to 80 km on a single charge using throttle only.
Your real-world distance can vary based on speed, hills, rider weight, tire pressure, temperature, and wind. If you’d like help estimating range for a specific model, contact us: https://emmo.ca/pages/contactus
Yes — e-bikes can carry a passenger, or pillion, if they are designed for it, with a factory-installed passenger seat and footrests.
Regulations vary by province: in Ontario, passengers must also be at least 16 years old, while in British Columbia, the minimum riding age is 14 but the rider must be 16 or older to carry a pillion. Carrying someone on a single-seat e-bike is unsafe and may be illegal. Always check your local regulations before riding with a passenger or pillion.
The main difference is how you ride: a pedal e-bike is designed to be pedalled (with assist), while a seated scooter-style e-bike is built primarily for electric riding with a larger frame and more built-in comfort and storage.
Bicycle-style e-bikes typically include working pedals and are a great fit for longer rides, hills, and riders who want to mix exercise with electric help. On most models, you can switch between pedal assist, throttle-only, or pedal-only riding, and EMMO’s bicycle-style e-bikes use removable batteries.
Scooter-style e-bikes usually have a wider seat, a step-through frame, and more integrated storage, and they’re commonly ridden using the throttle. Many EMMO scooter-style models also include a steering wheel lock and an alarm lock for added security, and some models use a removable battery design.
Other practical differences may include speed and range, which vary by model and local guidelines.
A lot of fun. Zipping all around Victoria with my son on the back. At about 350lbs of people on it the bike did quite well
It hates hills though and will suck your battery fast. Mine has some noise issues and the Bluetooth controls don’t work as they should.
Excellent service! I recently purchased the Maknak and had an amazing experience. The process was smooth from start to finish, with clear guidance to help me choose the right bike for my needs. Everything from setup to follow-up was handled with care, going above and beyond to make sure I was happy. Highly recommend!
Customer service was excellent from start to finish. The Maknak’s removable SafeSeal™ lithium battery makes charging simple and worry-free, and the generous storage space is perfect for carrying daily essentials. I also love that the design allows for so many DIY customization options — I’m already planning to come back after some time to pick up accessories and change up its look.
I was head over heels in love with my first scoot, at least until one day last week when the steering randomly and abruptly locked in place and all breaks simultaneously and utterly failed without warning as I was driving in city traffic.
As a result, I could not turn, stop, or even slow down. This mechanical failure directly caused me to strike the metal pole of a stop sign while travelling at full speed, destroying my brand new Maknak and nearly killing me in the process.
As a clear instance of mechanical failure, I assumed a replacement bike would be available under the warranty coverage offered by Emmo, especially considering we purchased this bike less than 90 days ago. However, Emmo appears to have a poor reputation online for habitually denying warranty claims made by customers.
Seeing my beloved new bike destroyed has been heartbreaking - I only pray Emmo honours its guarantee by replacing the bike I lost free of charge.

MAKNAK = PRACTICAL. I ride alone, sometimes bring a friend, sometimes carry groceries. It handles each situation without a problem and the battery lasts me days.
At first I didn’t think I’d need so much storage, but now I use it all the time. Between groceries, work bags, and weekend trips, the 70L option has been a lifesaver.
Picked up my first E bike from these guys yesterday. Employees were pleasantly friendly and very helpful. They let me know as soon as the bike was ready and put together. They were willing to help me load the bike into my car without me having to ask. Nothing to complain about here. I would recommend.
*In Canada, e-bike regulations vary by province and region. Riders should familiarize themselves with the specific laws in their area. Generally, the maximum speed limit for e-bikes is 32 km/h, which is the default maximum speed for our e-bikes. As the rider, it is your full responsibility to comply with local laws and use the e-bike safely and responsibly. Be sure to check for any specific regulations, such as age requirements, helmet laws, and other applicable rules in your province or municipality. For comparison, in the United States, our e-bikes meet the standards of a Class 2 e-bike, which are defined as bikes that can be powered by a motor up to 32 km/h with a throttle.
*The rated travel distance for our E-bikes is determined under ideal conditions, which include a speed of 32 km/h, flat road surfaces, good weather conditions, and the bike being in optimal condition. It's important to note that the actual travel distance may vary due to factors such as the rider's weight, road conditions, weather conditions, and the overall condition of the bike. The actual travel distance may be shorter than the rated distance. We cannot guarantee any specific travel distance and advise riders to plan their trips accordingly.
